Death has been a busy guy. The man in black – Death that is, not Johnny Cash – is assembling musicians like the general of an army preparing for battle, plucking influential music heroes from us like rare vinyl albums from crates. All we mortals can do is weep and curse Death for taking our icons to soon. Who will be our savior?
Answer: Coldplay.
As Death spends his eternity delivering our songwriting legends from this earth, Chris Martin is performing the eulogies for the fallen. The unmistakable influence these musicians have had on the band shows on each heart-felt homage. Coldplay has introduced a new audience to the rock-and-roll building blocks from our youth with each musical sympathy card. It’s not hard to imagine Death curating a playlist – a list of favorites, reborn from the ashes, to take the edge off of a hard day’s work.
