Steph's Top 10 Songs Of 2015 (So Far)

I decided to follow up Fran's post with my own list of favorite songs for 2015 (so far).  These stats come from my last.fm charts and are truly my most listened to songs of this year (again, so far) - whether I like it or not.  These songs are all from complete albums released in 2015.  Here we go, starting with #10.

"Drinking Lightning" by AWOLNATION
I wasn't a fan of past AWOLNATION but their album "Run" had me doing a triple take.  This album popped up on my favorites list because it's a really unique song.  It's eerie, slow, and steady.  The lyrics tell the tale of a man's confidence that he'll be chosen over another man by his love in the end.  It's simply beautiful.

"Centuries" by Fall Out Boy
Okay, I'm not particularly proud of this one but it is what it is.  I first heard this song during the movie "Big Hero 6".  My daughter fell in love with it and I have to admit I did for a while also.  I'm over it, though.  The rest of the album "American Beauty/American Psycho" yielded a few good ones but overall, it isn't my favorite Fall Out Boy album.  By the way, when the hell did Patrick get so hot?!

"Killing Strangers" by Marilyn Manson
I first heard this song during the movie "John Wick" and was instantly in love.  It might have had something to do with seeing Keanu Reeves in a sharp suit and back in prime form but I love Marilyn, too.  "The Pale Emperor" will surely go on my end of year favorite albums list, the whole thing is that good.  You can see my Marilyn Manson concert review here.

"Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf)" by AWOLNATION
Making their second appearance on my chart, AWOLNATION continues to woo me with their latest album "Run".  This song is instantly catchy and has a permanent spot on my workout playlist.  When they dropped the "motherfucker" and then got all screamy a minute later, I was gone.

"Motherfucker" by Faith No More
The staff (and I use that term loosely) did a collective album review of the new album Sol Invictus here.  I still listen to this album quite a bit but this is far away my favorite off the album.  I mean, just look at that title.  It's an excellent song for workouts and kicks me in the ass every time I use it for some extra rage and energy.

"Heavy Is The Head" by Zac Brown Band featuring Chris Cornell
I was driving around Daytona Beach when I first heard this song on radio, which I hardly ever listen to.  I recognized Chris Cornell's voice but couldn't for the life of me place who the other dude was.  A quick Google left me absolutely speechless when I found out it was Zac Brown and he was - GASP - country.  I don't think too much of most country these days but Zac Brown has a new fan and Chris Cornell just cemented himself as a total badass in my book.  As if he wasn't before.  Check out the whole "Jekyll and Hyde" album for something that stands out from country music today.

"For You I Am" by Dead Sara
I had never heard of Dead Sara until her newest album "Pleasure To Meet You" showed up in my Spotify New Releases.  It was love at first listen.  I don't listen to many female artists because they're usually Debbie Downers or use too many sexual double entendres (a pet peeve of mine).  Dead Sara wowed me from the start with her gritty voice, amazing lyrics, and kick ass tunes.  I'm a hardcore fan now.

"24 Frames" by Jason Isbell
I fell in love with this song the very first time I heard it.  The lyrics (I know, I know) are some of the most beautiful and moving I've heard in a really long time.  Unfortunately, the album "Something More Than Free" didn't wow me as much as this one song but I'll take it.

"Locked & Loaded" by Twin Shadow
I had never heard Twin Shadow until he popped up on my Spotify New Releases.  His new album "Eclipse" is sexy as a whole.  "Locked & Loaded" is the last song on the album and is my favorite.  Of course, lyrics got me again but I love the build up of tempo and urgency in this one.

"Bed On Fire" by Butch Walker
Butch's  "Afraid of Ghosts" album was released in February and sadly, this is the only song from it that made it onto my favorites list.  This was quite the let down for me, as the album was produced by another favorite artist of mine, Ryan Adams.  The song is slow, sexy, and passionate, everything I love about a great love song from Butch.  I hate Butch's moustache in this one (it's fake, but still...) but love that he used his real life son in the video.  It's a really beautiful and nicely done video, actually.

I hope you enjoyed my Top 10 Songs of 2015 (So Far) list.  Hopefully, you found a couple new ones to add to your list.  Let us know on Twitter or down below in the comments what you like or don't like so far this year!

Till next time, y'all!

Steph
