Our Top 10 "I'm Mad As Hell & I Am Not Going To Take This Anymore!" Songs - PART 2

I always have trouble with Top 10 lists.  I always want to list what I think should be on the list and not what I really feel what should be on the list.  I have decided that for this list I would get into character and let my anger make the decisions for me.  As research, I journeyed deep inside my psyche to find pure anger.  I travelled unconsciously back to my 18 year old self to a time when my psycho ex-girlfriend stole a good portion of my cassette collection.  I am still pissed even as I type this.  Now that I have a fierce, pent up inner rage that is ready to be released here are my Top 5 "I'm Mad As Hell & I Am Not Going To Take This Anymore!" Songs.

1. Nine Inch Nails / Head Like A Hole - Have you ever been angry about religion and greed?  Let me rephrase this.  Have you ever been as angry about religion and greed as Trent Reznor?  I didn't think so.

"Head like a hole.
Black as your soul.
I'd rather die than give you control.
Bow down before the one you serve.
You're going to get what you deserve.
Bow down before the one you serve."

This song being played during a normal, every day activity would make you angry.  Washing Dishes?  No.  You are Angrily Washing Dishes.  Go ahead.  Try this at home.  Do not send me the receipt for new dishes.

2. Linkin Park / One Step Closer - There is always that one person that as they are talking you are screaming in your head for them to just "SHUT UP".  You shout it so loud in your head that in drowns out the sound of their voice.  This song is for them.

"Everything you say to me
Takes me one step closer to the edge
And I'm about to break
I need a little room to breathe
Cause I'm one step closer to the edge
I'm about to break"
I think that instead of screaming "SHUT UP" in my head I am going to start singing this song in my head.  And in my head I will look like Chester Bennington.  But not Linkin Park Chester Bennington. More like Stone Temple Pilots Chester Bennington.  I feel better already.

3. Public Enemy / Fight The Power - What do you do when the Power that is supposed to represent you is actually corrupt?

"People, people we are the same
No we're not the same
Cause we don't know the game

What we need is awareness, we can't get careless"

Chuck D. has been quoted as saying, "There is only one race, the human race."  So, so true.  This is perfect example of getting educating others.  One angry man is scary, but an angry group is much scarier.

4. Black Flag / Rise Above - Let's take that same oppression and spin it from a different angle.

"Jealous cowards try to control.
Rise above.
We're gonna rise above.
They distort what they say.
Rise above.
We're gonna rise above.
Try and stop what we do.
Rise above,
when they can't do it themselves.

We are tired of your abuse.
Try and stop us, it's no use."

I don't think it was such a desirable thing to be a poor white punk in LA in the late 70's and early 80's.  I think that it is quite fitting that later on Henry Rollins did a version of this song with Chuck D.  I try to teach my children to be respectful but to also question authority.  Not everyone that wields power is responsible with it.

5. Limp Bizkit / Break Stuff - There are times when my anger isn't with a person at all.  It is with life in general.  There are days that you just wake up that way.  There is a cure for that.

"Its just one of those days
When you don't wanna wake up
Everything is fucked
Everybody sux
You don't really know why
But you want justify
Rippin' someone's head off
No human contact
And if you interact
Your life is on contract
Your best bet is to stay away motherfucker
It's just one of those days!!"
There is a fax machine at work that totally needs to get beaten with a baseball bat.  Office Space Style.  I am just waiting for that day.

HONORABLE MENTION - AWOLNATION / Burn It Down - When you want to be born again sometimes you have to rise from the ashes.
If you're feeling like I feel throw your fist through the ceiling
Some people call it crazy well I call it healing
If you need love turn around, do the helicopter
If you're sick, baby girl I would love to be your doctor

"So burn it down, burn it down
So burn it down, burn it down, yeah
So burn it down, burn it down baby burn it burn it down
Burn it down, burn it down baby burn it (motherfucker) burn it down
Burn it down, burn it down baby burn it burn it down
Burn it down, burn it down baby burn it burn it down
So burn it down"
Remind me not to invite this guy to my house...and then piss him off.

I think I have just spent my share of testosterone for the entire decade.  I must admit, now that I have this out of my system I do feel better.  And lets be honest, when my crazy ex-girlfriend stole my cassettes it gave me the perfect excuse to buy them on CD.  See?  Always a silver lining.

See you when the needle drops!
